Dr. Ambedkar Post-Matric Scholarship for EBC Students: Eligibility, Benefits, and Application Guide

Introduction

The Dr. Ambedkar Centrally Sponsored Scheme of Post-Matric Scholarships for Economically Backward Class (EBC) Students, introduced by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, aims to provide financial assistance to economically disadvantaged students pursuing post-secondary education. This initiative is designed to support higher education and uplift students from EBC backgrounds.


Objective of the Scheme

The scheme’s primary objective is to enable EBC students to complete their post-matriculation or post-secondary education without financial constraints. Scholarships are provided for studies in India and awarded by the respective State/Union Territory government where the applicant is permanently settled.


Key Benefits of the Scholarship

  1. Maintenance Allowance
    • Group A: ₹750 (Hostellers), ₹350 (Day Scholars)
      Applicable for degrees like M.Phil., Ph.D., engineering, and management courses.
    • Group B: ₹510 (Hostellers), ₹335 (Day Scholars)
      Courses include B.Pharma, LLB, hotel management, and postgraduate courses.
    • Group C: ₹400 (Hostellers), ₹210 (Day Scholars)
      General graduate programs like B.A., B.Sc., and B.Com.
    • Group D: ₹260 (Hostellers), ₹160 (Day Scholars)
      Non-degree courses like ITI, polytechnics, and senior secondary classes.
  2. Additional Allowances
    • Reader Charges for Blind Scholars: Up to ₹175/month depending on the group.
    • Study Tours: Reimbursement up to ₹900 annually for essential study-related travel.
    • Thesis Typing/Printing Charges: Reimbursement up to ₹1000 for research scholars.
  3. Fee Reimbursement
    Covers tuition, registration, library, and other compulsory fees.

Eligibility Criteria

  1. Open to Indian nationals belonging to the General Category (excluding SC/ST/OBC).
  2. Parental income should not exceed ₹1,00,000 per annum.
  3. Applicable for students pursuing post-matriculation courses in recognized institutions.
  4. Maximum of two boys per family can avail of this scholarship, but this restriction does not apply to girls.

Exclusions

  • Not applicable for aviation courses like CPL.
  • Students repeating the same educational stage in a different subject are not eligible.
  • Employed students earning over the income limit are excluded.

Required Documents

  • Income certificate from a Tehsildar or equivalent officer.
  • Copies of academic certificates.
  • Receipt acknowledging the scholarship in the previous year (if applicable).

Mode of Disbursal

Scholarship payments are made directly to the beneficiaries’ bank or post office accounts to ensure transparency and timely disbursement.

Duration and Renewal

  • Scholarships are renewable annually if the student maintains good conduct and progresses academically.
  • Awards are tenable until the completion of the respective course.
